How’d they do it? Initially entering into a TeleMax® Consulting agreement, they ultimately chose to expand the program for the 2006 fiscal year with the adoption of the TeleMax® Resident Director Program. According to Alan Ryea, Director of Alumni Relations and Parent Programs for UVM, Harris Connect helped the University more than double pledges in the first year of implementation – even raising the average amount pledged from $99 to $130. The quality training and management has remained consistently high, as evidenced by the most recent results. Mr. Ryea explains, “Our Chatty Cats successfully raised the most it ever has on a single Sunday this November – including one alum who pledged $15,100.” This, he says, is due in large part to the two Harris Connect Resident Directors they have on campus. “They really run a great operation, and it is their hard work that gets the student callers enthused and energized enough to achieve the great levels they do.” With TeleMax Consulting, Harris Connect gives college and university development staff access to fundraising specialists for guidance and advice on successfully running their phone rooms. This includes caller training and ask strategies, program design and goal setting, benchmarking and more. In the last fiscal year, TeleMax Consulting was instrumental in helping clients raise more than $4.5 million. Clay Buck, Vice President, TeleMax Operations attributes the two programs successes to the company’s state-of-the-art automated processes, calling it “21st Century Fundraising.” He says that Harris Connect alone offers an array of advanced technology including one step payment credit card processing, list and call traffic management, as well as a Virtual Call Center that features digital calling with call monitoring, whisper coaching and call recording, skill-based routing and more. “In addition to this,” Buck goes on, “as with all our programs – whether fundraising, affinity-based products or online and mobile applications – we start the process with our proven custom modeling and sophisticated analytics, built and refined over the course of the last 47 years, for better targeting and segmenting.” The result, he says, is a clean, accurate list of donor prospects from the outset for improved contact rates.
